Weekly Devotional – 2010 The Red Thread Series
A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see that Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.
JUNE - WEEK ONE
Book of the Bible: Lamentations Theme of the Book: A heart cry of suffering by Jeremiah, as he faithfully, and with great sorrow, administered God's prophetic words to obstinate and sinful Judah Main Character(s): Jeremiah, People of Jerusalem The “Red Thread”: Jeremiah's sorrow over Jerusalem is reminiscent of Jesus when He cried over Jerusalem, as documented in Matthew 23:37-39 and Luke 19:41-44.
Key Verses: Lamentation 3:22-23 and 3:48-49
The LORD'S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. My eyes run down with streams of water because of the destruction of the daughter of my people. My eyes pour down unceasingly, without stopping. (Jeremiah as He views Jerusalem)
APPLICATION: Jeremiah was faithful through his suffering and sorrow. Lamenting over sin is painful.
- How can God’s Word sustain me in the present sorrow of our sinful world?
- How am I living my life in light of the wickedness of this generation?
