Weekly Devotional – 2010 The Red Thread Series
A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see that Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.
JUNE - WEEK FIVE
Book of the Bible: Joel Theme of the Book: Through a devastating plague in the Southern Kingdom, Joel not only survived, but delivered a sounding, clarion call to the nation to prepare: for the day of the LORD is coming. (2:1) Main Character(s): Joel, the people of Judah The “Red Thread”: A quote from Peter's first public sermon (Acts 2:16-21) comes from this book. The pouring out of the Holy Spirit. Key Verses: Joel 2:12-13 and 2:28-29
'Yet even now,' declares the LORD, 'Return to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, weeping and mourning; and rend your heart and not your garments.' Now return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness and relenting of evil. 'It will come about after this that I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; and your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.'
APPLICATION: Joel gave a message of hope in a seemingly hopeless time in the history of Judah.
- How can the message of Joel be used to encourage me today?
- To whom is the Lord calling me to give His message of hope?
