Weekly Devotional – 2010 The Red Thread Series
A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see that Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.
JULY - WEEK THREE
Book of the Bible: Jonah Theme of the Book: God's far-reaching love for a lost world Main Character(s): Jonah, Captain and Crew of ship, Ninevites The “Red Thread”: Jesus, Himself, would use Jonah’s experience of the three days in the belly of the whale as a reference to His three days before His Resurrection (Matt. 12:39-41) Key Verses: Jonah 2:2, 9-10
'I called out of my distress to the LORD, And He answered me. I cried for help from the depth of Sheol; You heard my voice. But I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving. That which I have vowed I will pay. Salvation is from the LORD.' Then the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah up onto the dry land.
APPLICATION:
- When I reap the consequences of my own willful sin, how am I similar to Jonah? Jonah recognized his extreme trouble and called out to the LORD….The LORD answered him when he gave thanks and acknowledged that God was the Rescuer.
- In my distress, will I give thanks to the True Rescuer, Jesus?
