Weekly Devotional – 2010 The Red Thread Series
A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see that Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.
AUGUST - WEEK ONE
Book of the Bible: Nahum Theme of the Book: God's Judgment on Ninevah Main Character(s): The people of Ninevah The “Red Thread”: The attributes of Christ as "Promised Messiah", and the "Judge of all" are revealed Key Verses: Nahum 1:7 and 1:2
The LORD is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble, And He knows those who take refuge in Him. A jealous and avenging God is the LORD; The LORD is avenging and wrathful. The LORD takes vengeance on His adversaries, And He reserves wrath for His enemies.
APPLICATION: God did judge Ninevah 100 years after their repentance. The generation after Jonah fell back into wickedness. Nahum came to pronounce final doom on this nation. When repentance is applied in truth and obedience, judgment is withheld. This is what Jesus requires of His people.
- In my life today, what requires repentance?
- What can I learn from Nahum’s prophecy that will keep me from stumbling?
