Women In Discipleship
Weekly Devotional – 2010
The Red Thread Series

A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see that Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.

AUGUST - WEEK TWO

Book of the Bible:  Habakkuk
Theme of the Book:  The Righteous Will Live By His Faith
Main Character(s):  Habakkuk, the Chaldeans
The “Red Thread”:  The word "salvation" is offered three times

Key Verses:  Habakkuk 2:4; 3:18; 3:13a
'Behold, as for the proud one, his soul is not right within him;
But the righteous will live by his faith.'
Yet I will exult in the LORD,
I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.
You went forth for the salvation of Your people,
For the salvation of Your anointed.

APPLICATION:
Habakkuk struggled in his faith during a very difficult time. People were flagrantly violating God's laws and distorting justice, much like today. God's answers to Habakkuk's questions yield a trust that is amazing. Hear his reply:
I heard and my inward parts trembled, at the sound my lips quivered.
Decay enters my bones, and in my place I tremble.
Because I must wait quietly for the day of distress.
For the people to arise who will invade us.
Though the fig tree should not blossom, and there be no fruit on the vines, though the yield of the olive shall fail, and the fields produce no food,
though the flock should be cut off from the fold,
and there be no cattle in the stalls,
yet I will exult in the LORD, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.
The Lord God is my strength, and He has made my feet like hinds’ feet,
and makes me walk on my high places. Habakkuk 3:16-19

May this be our prayer when difficult times come crashing into our world!
