Weekly Devotional – 2010 The Red Thread Series
A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see that Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.
AUGUST - WEEK FIVE
Book of the Bible: Zechariah Theme of the Book: A prophet who encourages a nation to complete the task of rebuilding the temple and city, and later dies a martyr's death (Matthew 23:35) Main Character(s): Zechariah, Zerubbabel, Joshua the high priest The “Red Thread”: Zechariah uses a number of passages portraying Christ and different prophecies regarding Christ's ministry Key Verses: Zechariah 3:8; 9:9; and 12:10a
'Now listen, Joshua the high priest, you and your friends who are sitting in front of you -indeed they are men who are a symbol, for behold, I am going to bring in My servant the Branch.' Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation, Humble, and mounted on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey. 'And I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, The Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced ...'
APPLICATION: Zechariah knew that the temple needed to be completed. His job was to encourage the people to finish it. They did! His prophecies about Messiah are documented and true.
- How am I a reflection of a life lived to completion?
- And in the process, how am I sharing the truth of Christ Jesus, the Branch?
