Women In Discipleship
Weekly Devotional – 2010 The Red Thread Series
A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see that Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.
SEPTEMBER - WEEK FOUR
Book of the Bible: Luke Theme of the Book: Luke documents the life of Christ Jesus as the Son of Man, with emphasis on Jesus' offer of salvation to the world. Luke gives a thorough account of Jesus, with emphasis on how Jesus had compassion for Gentiles, women, children, tax collectors, sinners and many others. Main Character(s): Jesus, Elizabeth, Zechariah, John the Baptist, Mary, The Disciples, Herod the tetrarch, Pilate, Mary Magdalene The “Red Thread”: Jesus, the Great Physician, interacts with the sick, (outcasts in society) with whom He came to offer His salvation. Key Verses: Luke 5:31-32; 15:7; and 19:10
And Jesus answered and said to them, 'It is not those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.' I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.' 'For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.'
APPLICATION: Luke, being a physician, had a unique perspective on life.
His desire was to present Jesus to the ordinary people of society.
- Like Luke and Jesus, how am I presenting Jesus to those with whom I come in contact?
- Will I have the courage to speak?
- What resources has God given me to extend a helping hand to those in need?
