Women In Discipleship
Weekly Devotional – 2010
The Red Thread Series

A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see that Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.

OCTOBER - WEEK ONE

Book of the Bible:  John, 1John, 2 John, 3 John
Theme of the Book:  Written to testify of the purpose and proof that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and by believing in Him a person can have "life" in His Name.
1 John teaches practical ways to live the Christian life.
2 John is a lesson in true hospitality of sincere believers,
and 3 John concludes the lessons on hospitality to true believers.
Main Character(s):  John, Jesus, John the Baptist, the disciples, Mary and Martha, Lazarus, Pilate, Mary the mother of Jesus, the elect lady and her children, Gaius, Diotrephes, Demetrius
The “Red Thread”:  This Gospel proclaims the divinity of Jesus Christ; it also reveals His nature. The Epistles testify of the humanity of Jesus and the need to proclaim the Gospel to the world

Key Verses:  John 1:1,2; 8:58; 20:31; 1 John 5:1; 3 John 4
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.
Jesus said to them, "Truly , truly I say to you, before Abraham was born, I AM."
..but these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.
Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God,
and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him.
I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.

APPLICATION:
John, the "beloved disciple", writes this document to testify of the truth of Jesus as Messiah, Savior and Christ. Jesus is thoroughly quoted in this amazing Gospel.

Have you ever taken the time to read through this Gospel in one sitting?

I would suggest that you do so. It is an amazing Gospel!!

The 3 Epistles are a practical look at the Christian life, and one just needs to read and apply. I pray you will take the time to do this.
