Weekly Devotional – 2010 The Red Thread Series
A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see that Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.
OCTOBER - WEEK FOUR
Book of the Bible: 1 and 2 Corinthians Theme of the Book: 1 Corinthians: written to a church that had not put away worldliness and were in need of discipline; in grace, Paul demonstrates the "love" principle 2 Corinthians: Paul continues to reveal his caring shepherd-like qualities to these people, with the idea that they, in turn, should be caring and loving Main Character(s): Paul, Timothy, Titus, members of Chloe's household, False teachers The “Red Thread”: Paul stresses the reality of Christ's death and resurrection to those who had begun to deny this truth. Sanctification (holy living) is also stressed in this letter with the truth that Believers are new creations, reconciled through Christ's Atonement. Key Verses: 1 Corinthians 1:2 and 30; 13:13; 2 Corinthians 5:21
... to the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling, with all who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours; But by His (God) doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption,… But now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. He (God) made Him (Jesus) who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
APPLICATION: From these verses it is clear that it is all God's doing in Redemption. Love is often lost in the Christian community.
- How can I demonstrate love today?
