Weekly Devotional – 2010 The Red Thread Series
A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see that Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.
NOVEMBER - WEEK FOUR
Book of the Bible: Colossians Theme of the Book: Some have called this a condensed "Handbook of the Christian Faith." When troubles came to Colosse, Paul stressed the deity of Christ, election, and forgiveness. Main Character(s): Paul, Timothy, Tychicus, Onesimus, Mark, Epaphras The “Red Thread”: The Diety of Christ; Paul's clear defense of Christ against philosophies and deceit of false teachers. Key Verses: Colossians 1:22; and 2:8-10
... yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach -- See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority.
APPLICATION:
- How am I guarding the genuine faith that is taught in Scripture?
- What present worldly philosophy or tradition needs to be put away in my life?
