Women In Discipleship
Weekly Devotional – 2010
The Red Thread Series

A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see that Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.

DECEMBER - WEEK FOUR

Book of the Bible:  Hebrews
Theme of the Book:  Written to a Jewish audience about our Great High Priest, this book is a history lesson in the Messiah message, and offers a wonderful "Hallmark of Faithful Believers" from Old Testament times to the day and time of this book.
Main Character(s):  Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Moses, and many other Old Testament people of faith
The “Red Thread”:  This book is an expose' of who our Great High Priest is in Jesus Christ, and the New Covenant He has given to all Believers.

Key Verses:  Hebrews 4: 14-16; 11:1-2; and 12:11
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the
heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For
we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses,
but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.
Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace,
so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Now faith is the assurance of the things hoped for,
the conviction of things not seen.
For by it the men of old gained approval.
All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful;
yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful
fruit of righteousness.

APPLICATION:
  • How often do I take the time to “draw near” to the “throne of grace”?
  • Faith in Christ is sure…Does my life reflect this assurance?
  • Discipline is a good thing. How has God’s discipline been helpful in my walk of faith?
