Weekly Devotional – 2010 The Red Thread Series
A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see the Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.
JANUARY - WEEK ONE
Book of the Bible: James Theme of the Book: James writes a practical book describing how salvation through faith alone will demonstrate faithfulness to God's will in the life of a Believer. Main Character(s): True Believers in Jesus Christ The “Red Thread”: James refers to Christ twice; His references to "The Sermon on the Mount"; and other truths taught by Jesus clearly point to Jesus, His Savior and Lord. Key Verses: James 1:19, 27; and 2:18, 26:
This you know my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. But someone may well say, 'You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.' For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.
APPLICATION:
- What evidence is there of my true faith in Jesus Christ?
- When someone harms me unjustly, how do I respond?
- As the New Year begins, what action can I take to demonstrate my genuine faith?
