Weekly Devotional – 2010 The Red Thread Series
A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see the Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.
JANUARY - WEEK TWO
Book of the Bible: 1 and 2 Peter Theme of the Book: 1 Peter - written to encourage Believers to live with victorious hope in a time of great persecution and trials. 2 Peter - written to expose false teachers in the Church. Main Character(s): Peter, Silas, Mark, and Paul The “Red Thread”: Peter draws reference to the sufferings of Christ as a "living hope" in the midst of their persecution. In 2 Peter, he emphasizes the Second Coming of Christ. Key Verses: 1 Peter 1:3-4, 4:8; and 2 Peter 1:16, 21, and 2:1
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you. ... keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins. For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.
APPLICATION:
