WEEKLY DEVOTIONALS – 2011
The Bible – Absolute Truth – Week 3 2 Peter 1:16-21
v.16 - For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. v.17 - For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory,
‘This is My beloved Son with whom I am well pleased’ ...
v.18 - and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. v.19 - So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. v.20 - But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, v.21 - for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
POINTS TO PONDER
- The Apostle Peter wrote these profound words of Absolute Truth.
- He addresses the issue of unbelief when he talks about tales of unbelief.
- He was an eyewitness.
- He saw the Glory Jesus possessed when he was on the Mount of Transfiguration.
- Peter’s words pay attention mean just that!
- The lamp is Jesus, and from His Saving Grace we come to shine the Lamp of Christ to others. Peter makes it perfectly clear.
- The Scripture is not written by man, but men were moved by the Holy Spirit to write God’s Word to us!
- Eyewitness Peter stands in front of us as a proof of Who Jesus Is and what the Scriptures are all about! It is God’s Word to us!
- Do you believe Peter’s eyewitness account of what he saw?
- It is said that Peter died crucified upside down because he didn’t want to dishonor the way that Jesus died. Would a man actually die this death if he didn’t believe?
