WEEKLY DEVOTIONALS – 2011
The Bible – Absolute Truth – Week 13

For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given,
and the government will be on His shoulders.
And He will be called Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace
there will be no end.

He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

Isaiah 9:6-7

Last week we saw how miraculous the Bible is, considering it is 66 Books written over 1,600 years by 40 different authors in 3 languages from 3 continents, and the theme, lineage and historical truth harmonize with profound accuracy!

How could this have happened? Not by accident I can assure you!!

Preserving the Old Testament:

The original texts were written on papyrus or parchment. When a text wore out, a new one was made. How? Stringent rules were followed by scribes to keep from making errors! These dedicated Hebrew scribes used an elaborate counting system to preserve the Original text, counting every letter of every page of the original manuscript. The new manuscript had to match the Original, or it was destroyed and written over. You might ask who did this work in preserving the Original Text?

In 1947, the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Guess what? One manuscript from the 1st century was examined shortly thereafter. When this and other texts were examined, NO DIFFERENCE was found. Only God working through faithful and accurate scribes, could this have been preserved. God’s timing is perfect!!!

THOUGHTS TO PONDER THIS WEEK
  • The Bible is historically sound and truthful.
  • The Dead Sea Scrolls were found to document in these last days God’s Word to us!
  • Do you value the efforts of God and His scribes in the preservation of His Word?
  • The Bible truly is God’s Gift to us!
