WEEKLY DEVOTIONALS – 2011
The Bible – Absolute Truth – Week 14
I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this Book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this Book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the Book of this prophecy, God will take away his par from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this Book. He who testifies to these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming quickly.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. Revelation 22:18-2
The New Testament text is amazing. Thousands of manuscripts have been discovered. They assure us that what we have is virtually identical to the writing of Matthew, Paul and all the other New Testament writers. Over 14,000 manuscripts, dated as early as 125 AD, is astonishing. Even Caesar’s Gallic Wars manuscript from AD 900 only yields 10 manuscripts. Consider Livy’s History of Rome and its earliest date found was AD 400, and yields 20 manuscripts. It’s only God who would see to it that these Biblical texts of His Word would survive in such abundance. The people involved in preserving them were in love with God and His Absolute Truth!!!
THOUGHTS TO PONDER THIS WEEK
- How careful are you to preserve the accuracy of God’s revealed Word?
- Is the Bible something you value and cherish like those who have gone before you?
- How serious is our desire to preserve the Truth of the Word of God in our lives?
