WEEKLY DEVOTIONALS – 2011
The Bible – Absolute Truth – Week 18

But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously
in My name
which I have not commanded him to speak,
or which he speaks in the name of other gods,
that prophet shall die.

You may say in your heart,
'How will we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?'

'When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD,
if that thing does not come about or come true,
that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken.
The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.

Deuteronomy 18:20-22

PROPHETIC ASSURANCE (Part One)
Statistics abound regarding life and history. Prophecy is “utterance spoken in advance of history future.” It can be hours, days, months, or years before a predicted event. Examination of Biblical Prophecy is profound and amazing. Let me explain.

Consider these prophecies spoken at least 500 years before Christ.
(Taken from the book entitled Beyond Belief To Conviction, pages 65-66)

About Jesus:

  • He will be betrayed by a friend (Psalm 41:4; Matthew 26:49)
  • Price for betrayal 30 pieces of silver (Zechariah 11:12; Matthew 26:15)
  • Would be forsaken and deserted by disciples (Zechariah 13:7; Mark 14:50)
  • Would be silent before accusers (Isaiah 53:7; Matthew 27:12)
  • Be struck and spit on (Isaiah 50:6; Matthew 26:67)
  • Hands and feet will be pierced (Psalm 22:16; Luke 23:33)
  • Will pray for His persecutors (Isaiah 53:12)
  • His garments will be divided and won by casting lots (Psalm 22:18;John 19:23)
  • His bones will be left unbroken (Psalm 34:20; John 19:33)
  • Will be buried in a rich man’s tomb (Isaiah 53:9; Matthew 27:57-60)
(The book lists a total of 29 prophecies in this one chapter)

As a final testimony, on the third day after His death, He will be raised from the dead (Psalm 16:10; Acts 2:31), ascend to heaven (Psalm 68:18; Acts 1:9), be seated at the right hand of God in full majesty and authority (Psalm 110:11, Hebrews 1:3).
(Quotes from Josh McDowell; Beyond Belief to Conviction, page 66)

THOUGHTS TO PONDER THIS WEEK

Biblical prophecy fulfilled is powerful proof of Biblical truthfulness and accuracy.
  • How can you use this accurate information to enhance your walk with God?
  • How thankful are you to have such extraordinary Scripture in your possession
