WEEKLY DEVOTIONALS – 2011
The Bible – Absolute Truth – Week 34 The brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the Word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. Acts 17:10-11
In the year AD 345-407, lived a great preacher named John Chrysostom. His love for the Scripture gave great displeasure to the king of his day. And because of this great love, he was compelled to use expository preaching of the very Word of God. His TRUTHBEARER status gave him the title of "Patriarch of Constantinople". He preached in the historic church of St. Sophia in Constantinople. Many people heard the awesome truths as exposited from the Word of God and they were moved, like the Bereans, to hear and embrace God's Word in their lives. The Word was preached to great multitudes. In the end, he was exiled because of the amazing Power of God's Word in the hearts and minds of people in that day and time. Unfortunately, today that great structure still stands, BUT it is a structure without power! It has been used by other religions and is used today as a museum for people to look at and wonder what could have been.
THOUGHTS TO PONDER THIS WEEK
The Expository Preaching of God’s Word is essential in Truth Bearing. The Word of God, when taught verse by verse, is powerful to the soul.
- Does your pastor use expository preaching of God’s Word with effective results?
- After your worship service, is your heart stirred to live the Word of God?
