Hymns of Christian Faith and Worship WEEK 2 I Sing The Mighty Power of God Isaac Watts, 1715 The Heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. Psalm 19:1,2
This song was published in 1715 in a work entitled Divine and Moral Songs for Children. It incorporates a number of Scriptures to tell the story of Creation. Watts' desire was for children to sing songs of faith that they could understand.
I Sing The Mighty Power of God
I sing the might power of God that made the mountains rise, That spread the flowing seas abroad, and built the lofty skies. I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day; The moon shines full at His command and all the stars obey.
I sing the goodness of the Lord that filled the earth with food; He formed the creatures with His Word and then pronounced them good. Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed wherever I turn my eyes; If I survey the ground I tread or gaze upon the sky!
There’s not a plant or flower below but makes Thy glories known; And clouds arise and tempest blow by order from Thy throne; While all that borrows life from Thee Is ever in Thy care, And everywhere that man can be, Thou, God art present there.
