Hymns of Christian Faith and Worship WEEK 3 Be Thou My Vision (Ancient Irish Poem and Melody) But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Philippians 3:7
This beloved hymn can be traced back to the 8th Century. It was translated in 1905 by Mary Bryne and arranged by David Evans. Many titles to God in adoration and worship are experienced in this one hymn. A possible link to St. Patrick, born in 373 A.D., in Scotland, is associated with the hymn.
Be Thou My Vision
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart, Naught all else to me, save that Thou art- Thou my best thought, by day or by night, Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my wisdom and Thou my true Word; I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord; Thou my great Father, I Thy true son, Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise, Thou mine inheritance, now and always; Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of heaven, my treasure Thou art.
High King of heaven, my victory won, May I reach heaven’s joys, bright heaven’s Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever be-fall, Still be my vision, O Ruler of all. For a blessing, go to: Be Thou My Vision with Lyrics, (Hymn) by 4HIM (on YouTube) - and sing along! :)
