Hymns of Christian Faith and Worship WEEK 5 Great Is Thy Faithfulness Thomas Obadiah Chisolm - 1923 The LORD’S lovingkindness indeed never ceases, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23
In Chisolm’s early life he was ill. He was saved at age 27 and found comfort in Lamentations 3:22,23. His correspondence to a musician friend included a poem based on this verse. His friend composed a musical score, and in 1923 it was published. Several years later a Moody Bible Institute professor discovered the song and began using it in chapel on a regular basis. In 1945 George Beverly Shea began singing it a Billy Graham events and is now known around the world.
Great Is Thy Faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God, my Father; There is no shadow of turning with Thee. Thou changest not; Thy compassions, they fail not. As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.
Refrain: Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; All I have needed Thy hand hath provided. Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!
Summer and winter, and spring-time and harvest, Sun, moon and stars in their courses above, Join with all nature in manifold witness To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love. Refrain
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, Thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide. Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow – Blessings all mine with then thousand beside! Refrain Go to Hymnal.net to sing this great song of Faith! :)
