Hymns of Christian Faith and Worship WEEK 16 The Family of God
Text and Music by William J. Gaither - Copyright 1970 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. Romans 8:17-17 Gloria Gaither tells the story. It was the day before Easter Sunday - a phone call came to pray for a young man in their church who had just been critically burned. It wasn't known if he would live through the night. The whole church family prayed all night. Easter morning came and in the Service it was announced that the doctors were now hopeful. Later, after church, Bill sat at the piano to pen these precious words.
The Family of God I’m so glad I’m a part of the family of God I’ve been washed in the fountain, Cleansed by His blood! Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod, for I’m part of the family, the family of God. You will notice we say "brother and sister" 'round here It’s because we’re a family and these folks are so near; When one has a heartache we all share the tears, And rejoice in each victory In this family so dear. (repeat verse one) From the door of an orphanage to the house of the King No longer an outcast, a new song I sing; From rags unto riches, from the weak to the strong, I’m not worthy to be here, But praise, God, I belong. (repeat verse one). To sing this song, go to: The Cathedrals "The Family Of God."
