The Sermon on the Mount – A Sermon Like No Other Week Two – Righteousness and Happiness Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven. (Matthew 5:3)
The way of true happiness is first addressed by Jesus in His Teaching as found in Matthew. The word blessed is key. It literally means happy, fortunate or blissful. It’s not just a fleeting emotion either. This blessed is only going to be found in a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. Jesus begins His Teaching with correcting a false teaching regarding true righteousness and the blessing that comes with living God’s way. True happiness will never be found in the world..its riches…fame…or fortune. Just the opposite is true. Truth One: Happiness comes in recognizing my bankrupt spiritual self..apart from God. I am lost without Christ. With Christ I am an heir to His kingdom. Let’s share this truth with others this week!
Blessings to all,
