The Sermon on the Mount – A Sermon Like No Other Week Six – Righteousness and Happiness Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. (Matthew 5:7)
Jesus is now ready to teach the people what true righteousness looks like in the everyday life. Mercy is something every believer recognizes in abundance. Why? Because Holy God demonstrated His mercy on us (me). I was totally lost in my sin (Romans 3:23) and death was my fate – But Christ, rich in mercy, died for me. (Romans 6:23) God gave me His mercy through the atoning work of His Son, my Savior. Jesus knows mercy well. He teaches the people by stating clearly that being merciful (forgiving of others, etc.) is the way of true righteousness and happiness. Truth Five: A Christian in mind and heart is ready and willing (by God’s grace) to forgive because this forgiveness was extended to us by God through Jesus Christ on the Cross. Is this form of Christ likeness being demonstrated in your life today?
Blessings to all,
