The Sermon on the Mount – A Sermon Like No Other Week Ten – Righteousness and Happiness Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad. For your reward in heaven is great, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matthew 5:11-12)
Jesus takes time to explain to the people what following Him will cost them. As Christians we are equipped with God’s power. His Spirit controls our lives. The salvation we possess is eternal and abundant. People need to know that Jesus is the Light of the world. (John 1:4) Not everyone wants to hear the truth. Jesus shares specifically that Christian testimony can result in persecutions of many kinds. We are to be prepared and know that persecution also happened in the past. It’s comforting to know that Jesus wants us to be encouraged even when persecuted. His rest is coming. Heaven is our home. Truth Nine: Persecution is inevitable for Christians. The joy of being in Christ does give hope even in the hard times.
Blessings to all,
