The Sermon on the Mount – A Sermon Like No Other Week 14 – Righteousness and Scripture Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same shall be least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever keeps and teaches them he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:19)
The complete Scripture is to be obeyed and taught. Jesus emphasizes His previous statement in verse 18 here in verse 19. Those who know His word and teach it are responsible for the accuracy of how it is taught. When a pastor or teacher takes God’s Word into his own hand and decides it's old fashion, out of date, needs to be improved upon or just annulled is misrepresenting the whole Scripture. The fact is that we cannot keep the whole law due to our sin. However, we are to strive for complete obedience in our lives out of the love given to us through Christ. Jesus speaks clearly about this issue. (See 2 Corinthians 5:10) Truth 13: The Bible is Complete and needs to be taught from beginning to end, as is!
