The Sermon on the Mount – A Sermon Like No Other Week 22 – Righteousness and Practical Religion Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven ... But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly. (Matthew 6:1,3,4)
The practice of charitable deeds is seen in many ways. Jesus saw the way the Pharisee’s viewed this righteousness. Jesus called it hypocrisy. This outward display of piety was wrong. Jesus exposes it here. God is omniscient. He sees inside the heart. Being a man pleaser only brings earthy gain. God desires genuine-from the heart generosity. Doing outward deeds for self gratification is vanity and useless toil. Charitable giving from the heart of true worship to God yields true fruit for the Kingdom! Truth 21: Practical deeds, done quietly, yield abundant harvest for God’s Kingdom.
Blessings to all,
