 The Sermon on the Mount – A Sermon Like No Other Week 24 – Righteousness and Practical Religion Therefore do not be like them (hypocrites). For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. In this manner, therefore pray: Our Father in heaven, Hollowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. (Matthew 6:8-13) How amazing and humbling to see these words spoken by Jesus to the people on that hillside. He makes 6 petitions. Three are directed toward God (v.9,10) and three toward our human need (v.11-13). Key to every prayer (remember this is a Model) is seen in the words Your will be done. It’s not about me. It’s His life lived through me that counts. Honoring God first and then making requests is the healthy way of true prayer. Seeking forgiveness and not being lured into temptations – keep us in the right perspective for living in His will. We see this all through His Sermon on the Mount.
