 The Sermon on the Mount – A Sermon Like No Other Week 29 – Righteousness and Human Relations In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the law and the prophets. Matthew 7:12 Jesus will share with the crowd an interesting truth in this part of His sermon. Some have called it the Golden Rule. In ancient culture there existed a rule like this one, however it was a negative command. Jesus introduces His teaching in a welcoming dialog. By charging people to consider how they want to be treated ... and thus treating others this way turned the negative teaching into a positive one. This teaching was lived out by Jesus and His command was for all people to show honor and respect to one another.
