The Sermon on the Mount – A Sermon Like No Other Week 31 – Righteousness and Salvation Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing; but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Matthew 7:15, 16
Serious truth is spoken in these verses. Jesus observed the false teachers – synagogue leaders and the Sanhedrin. Outward appearance and eloquent speech do not make a true shepherd. Jesus was grieved over their false religion and pious attitudes. Their fruit was strict laws and obligatory rituals. There was no joy and worship in these acts and demands, only rules. Their fruit was bad! He saw that the people were starved for true food that could satisfy the soul and spirit. Jesus warns the false teachers in their midst that they would be cut off, cast out and burned up! He wanted the people to recognize the Truth He was teaching and we will see that their hearts were stirred. Truth 30: A sure sign of a false prophet is one who does not place Jesus at the center of the message being taught.
