The Sermon on the Mount – A Sermon Like No Other Week 36 And turning His gaze toward His disciples, He began to say, blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the Kingdom of God ... But woe to you who are rich, for you are receiving your comfort in full. Luke 6:20,24
In this Luke account we see Jesus elaborate on the Beatitudes. He gives a corresponding woe to the blessing. As one ponders the message being taught, it points to a deeper truth than the aspect of monetary wealth. Jesus saw the true poverty of the spiritual condition. The people were starving spiritually and Jesus gives encouragement to their need for truth. He also addresses the neglect of the teachers who had the law and did not live in accordance to it. In our day it would be a warning to all who preach and teach. The requirement is to preach and teach the whole counsel of God from cover to cover ... fully and accurately! A warning to take seriously indeed! Truth #35: True poverty of spirit yields abundant blessings – knowing that in me dwells no good thing – in Christ is abundant joy forevermore!
Blessings to all,
