The Sermon on the Mount – A Sermon Like No Other Week 40 But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. Luke 6:27-28
In the middle of chapter 6 of Luke you will find what we classify as The Golden Rule: treat others the same way you want them to treat you (v.31). Matthew's quote can be found in chapter 7:12-14. The Sermon on the Mount covered a variety of topics. This Luke passage (v.27-36) covers rules for kingdom living. We can learn much from its verses. First, it speaks to those who truly hear this truth. Second, we are to love our enemies. Third, we are to do good to those who hate us. Fourth, we are to bless those who curse us. Fifth, we are to pray for those who mistreat us. This teaching, if applied by the true hearer, can literally transform lives and glorify Christ. Are we willing? Truth #39: Following - practicing love, doing good, blessing, praying and not cursing those who oppress us - is truly at the heart of godly obedience.
Blessings to all,
