 The Sermon on the Mount – A Sermon Like No Other Week 44 ... while Jesus was praying ... after He had finished, one of his disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray ... and He said to them, when you pray, say: Father, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation.” Luke 11:1-4 Jesus taught by example. His structure for prayer is key. Knowing, honoring and bringing reverence to the Father is essential. Recognizing and looking toward our eternal home and His kingdom coming ... these are of 1st importance. Jesus teaches us to value praise, worship and hope. Then He went on to demonstrate how we are to pray for our daily needs and to be tuned in to the need and activity of asking to be forgiven genuinely. In asking, also being willing and obedient in giving forgiveness to those who wrong us is essential to our prayer life. Powerful truths to live by! Lastly, He shares a very important protective prayer need for all believers: to not be led into sin!
