The Sermon on the Mount – A Sermon Like No Other Week 45 So I say to you, ask and it will be given to you, seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened. Luke 11:9-10
These words repeated here can be seen in Matthew 7:7-11. In the Matthew account, this couplet was delivered between judging and the Golden Rule discourses. In Luke it follows the teaching on prayer and a parable about a persistent friend. We all are familiar with praying with persistence. Here we see 3 aspects of a prayer: asking, seeking and knocking. When I have a request, its seriousness can be measured by my prayer life. I have found that the asking is the easy part. When the need is more intense, then the seeking begins in earnest. When prolonged intensity prevails, I’m knocking with a persistent faith and hope. It is in the asking, seeking and knocking arena where we can view the hand of God, hear the voice of God and we receive the peace of God. The request remains – but the heart and His peace surround me with His love and faithfulness. Be still and know that I am God is the word I hear and I choose to trust and believe! Truth #44: Prayer is voicing concern and experiencing peace as God works out His purpose through them and me.
Blessings to all,
