A Faithful Witness - Week Three - ABEL By FAITH Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained the testimony that he was righteous, God testifying about his gift, through FAITH, though he is dead, he still speaks. Hebrews 11:4
Abel was listening from his heart and mind. When it was time to offer to Creator God the sacrifice, he was obedient to the requirement God had ordained. And the LORD had regard for Abel and for his offering. (Genesis 4:4b) Abel’s FAITH was in the Word of God as passed along by his father, Adam. He would follow the instructions. He followed God’s orders. His FAITH proved righteous and God was well pleased. Like Abel, we are also asked to obey the Word of God. This obedience is impossible apart from FAITH in God. But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere FAITH. (1Timothy 1:5) Abel obeyed God in true faith. His brother Cain offered a sacrifice in unbelief. Abel gives us a remarkable legacy that a person comes to God by FAITH to receive true righteousness. Look at Matthew 23:35 to see what Jesus said about righteous Abel. May we also be FAITHFUL WITNESSES.
