A Faithful Witness - Week Twenty Then my God put it into my heart to assemble the nobles, the officials and the people to be enrolled by genealogies. Then I found the book of the genealogy of those who came up first in which I found the following record ... the whole assembly together was 42,350 people ... Nehemiah 7:5,66a
Nehemiah offered up one of the most significant confessions and intercessory prayers of all Scripture (Nehemiah 1:4-11). His heart of confession was heard by God, and his story is written in these pages of Scripture. After Nehemiah traveled to Israel (He was a captive in Susa) he heard again from God. He gathered the people, and his ministry partner Ezra brought the Law before the assembly of men, women and all who could listen with understanding ... he read from it ... from early morning until midday ... and all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law. (Nehemiah 8:2,3) That day God brought true conviction to this gathering of people. They understood (Nehemiah 8:12) the meaning of true confession and sin and true worship. The Faithful Witness of Nehemiah and Ezra to share the written Law of God moved this people mightily. God’s word is powerful! Do we value it, read it, study it, apply it, live it out? Does it affect us? May our faithful witness always be in accordance to the truth of God’s Word!
