A Faithful Witness - Week Twenty-One In those days, while Mordecai was sitting at the kings gate, ... two of the kings officials ... became angry and sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus. But the plot became know to Mordecai and he told Queen Esther, and Esther informed the king in Mordecai’s name. Esther 2:21,22
Mordecai, a Jew in captivity in Persia showed honor to the king by his exposing a plot to kill the king. Another man, Haman, was head over all the king’s princes in Persia. He demanded others show him respect. Mordecai refused to honor him because of his lineage as an Amalekite. (See Deuteronomy 25:17-19) Hatred for the Jews was Haman’s passion. These two men were passionate. Mordecai, as a faithful witness would lead Esther, his niece, to go before the king to bring about a rescue of the Jews because of an edict the king signed that would bring destruction to the Jews. God’s timing and rescue would lead to Haman’s destruction. Queen Esther, by the prompting of Mordecai, would speak to the king and Mordecai and Esther’s Faithful Witness would ultimately preserve the nation of Israel. (Esther 10:3) May God give us the strength to speak for Him daily!
