A Faithful Witness - Week Thirty-Six Therefore those who had been scattered went about preaching the word. Philip went down to the city of Samaria and began proclaiming Christ to them ... and angel of the Lord spoke to Philip saying “get up and go south" ... from Jerusalem to Gaza ... there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of Candace ... and had come to Jerusalem to worship ... Philip heard him reading the prophet Isaiah and said: do you understand what you are reading? And he said, well, how could I unless someone guides me?” Acts 8:4,5,26,27,28,30
Philip the Evangelist is seen here as a faithful witness for several reasons. He was following the Great Commission of Matthew 28. His preaching and teaching was biblical and informed. The Spirit was working and many were being saved. He knew his Scripture and was using his Christian faith to tell the good news of the Savior. His efforts with the Ethiopian was a lesson in one on one Discipleship. To be a disciple one needs to love Scripture, learn it and share it. My concern today is the lack of real desire to know and search the Scripture. Do you have a deep desire to know His Word, live it and share it? A faithful witness is eager to share the Gospel. It should be the practice of our lives ... May we be found faithful!
Blessings to all,
