A Faithful Witness - Week Forty-Four I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a servant of the Church which is at Cenchrea; that you receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and that you help her in whatever matter she may have need of you; for she herself has also been a helper of many, and of myself as well. - Romans 6:1,2 The Body of Christ is a living structure. When Paul wrote Romans he would need a “servant of the church” to deliver the letter. Phoebe was a helper of many including Paul. He ends his letter to the Roman church with these compelling remarks about her. It speaks well of anyone who is in Christ to receive a messenger of God’s Word in a manner worthy of the saints. This reminder of a faithful witness challenges me to consider how I think and respond to the Pastor or Bible teacher who rightly divides God’s Truth. Phoebe delivered the Epistle of Romans to that Church. As the Elders read the Letter, Paul wanted the congregation to acknowledge her as a faithful witness and to take to heart the effort it took for her to travel to their city. May we also appreciate the efforts others have taken to deliver God’s Word to us ...
