Godly Wisdom - 2016 Week Twenty-Seven
Therefore, brethren, select from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task. Acts 6:3
The Church has a serious responsibility to care for the family. We see in Acts 6:1-7 an incident where the Church Family was having a dispute. The Apostles were becoming overwhelmed with the responsibility of caring for the new Christian community. They identify the struggle and come up with a solution to the need. The selection of seven men comes with a qualifier. No need for Doctoral degrees or Biblical heritage ... but with "Good reputation," honorable men who were "filled with the Spirit and with wisdom." These were men who demonstrated in their public and private lives their genuine faith in Christ alone! The text then states in verse 4: But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word. These words are so very important today. The Church is the Guardian of the Gospel. Our pastors are to be devoted to prayer and rightly dividing the Gospel! The others who are appointed also are to be above reproach and honestly care for the Church Family. Are they? Help us Lord to be of good repute and filled with Your Spirit and wisdom and to honor You by honoring our Church Family. Amen.
May the Lord bless each of you,
