Week Forty-Three

And now, O Lord, GOD, You are God, and Your words are true; and You have promised this good thing to Your servant. Now therefore may it please You to bless the house of Your servant, so that it may continue forever before You. For You, O Lord GOD, have spoken, and with Your blessing shall the house of Your servant be blessed forever.
2 Samuel 7:28,29

God had made a promise to Israel, beginning with the Covenant of Abram. In the establishment of the nation of Israel and David as king we see the above verse that David, by faith, accepted this extraordinary and irrevocable Promise God had made to him as king of Israel the nation. The words "Your words are true" were believed by David. We see in John 17:17 the words of Jesus, "Sanctify them (us) in truth; Your word is truth." Again in Psalm 119:160 we see: "the sum of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous rules endures forever." The Davidic Covenant would be another building block of the eternal promise of a Messiah who would come from the line of David and would be the Passover Lamb... Help us Lord to appreciate Your Word which tells us the truth of the blood sacrifices woven through History and pointing to Calvary. Amen.
