Week Forty-Six

But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you One will go forth for Me to be Ruler in Israel. His going forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity. Therefore He will give them up until the time when she who is in labor has borne a child. Then the remainder of His brethren will return to the sons of Israel. - Micah 5:2-3

Every Christmas season we are reminded of this specific prophecy of Messiah's birthplace. This prophecy reminds us that even before the foundation of the world God, who is eternal, is active in the affairs of the universe. But, did you know, that in verse 3a, "He will give them up until the time" refers to present and future events. Jesus' first appearing was as a Suffering Servant. He rescued us at the Cross. He was raised in victory over sin and death for those who believe in Him. The rest of the story: "He gave them up talks about the times we are in. This interval is called the Age of the Gentiles, and this age will end when Christ reappears as Conquering King! True wisdom is God's Wisdom." His Word, the Bible is the Living Word! This season of Thanksgiving and preparation for Christmas ... ponder your place in History and be Thankful and Hopeful!
