Christian Character & Conduct - 2017 Weekly Devotional - Week 2
Who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. Titus 2:14
The very end and purpose of the atoning work of Christ is to create religious character and to make Christian conduct. In Christ's teaching, it is not simply works of charity and deeds of mercy upon which he insists, but inward spiritual character. This much is demanded, and nothing short of it, will suffice. (Quote from Prayer and Character and Conduct by E. M. Bounds. P. 47) The Scripture passage from Titus (above) emphasizes our redemption. To know that Christ redeemed me from all iniquity and purified me unto Himself is such a Gift! From within the saved person a new character is born and this can only come by the power and working of Christ through His Holy Spirit. (See John 6:63 and Romans 8:5) Character is what we are inside through Christ! Prayerful consideration is required for this amazing truth!
