Christian Character & Conduct - 2017 Weekly Devotional - Week 3
Listen to these words by E. M. Bounds written in 1912. Prayer governs conduct, and conduct makes character. Conduct is what we do; character is what we are. Conduct is the outward life. Character is the life unseen, hidden within, yet evidenced by that which is seen. (Quote from Prayer, Character and Conduct by E.M. Bounds, p.47)
The immediate focus in that quote is Prayer. As Bounds begins his description of character and conduct he first emphasizes Prayer! He states that prayer governs conduct. Prayer is the link to all things godly! Bounds states it well when he says there may be a certain degree of moral character and conduct independent of prayer, but there cannot be anything like distinctive religious character and Christian conduct without it. Prayer helps, where all other aids fail. The more we pray, the better we are, the purer and better our lives. (ibid p.47) May we begin, continue and end our days with prayerful hearts. Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. Colossians 4:2
