Christian Character & Conduct - 2017 Weekly Devotional - Week 41
Recently I was asked to consider writing a study on the true meaning of "good works" as taught by Jesus Christ in the Bible. One reason for this request was because churches seem to focus on works more than the Word of God. It isn't just the church that puts emphasis on works (I use church collectively meaning not all churches are true churches who believe Jesus is God in the flesh co-equal with God and that the Bible (all of it) is the inerrant Word of God.) This also abounds in every religion under the sun. It's for this reason that I refer to 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Key to work that the Lord approves of is essential. There are no less than 53 plus references to God's work in the Lord described in the Bible. One needs to be atune to God's description of good works of the Lord to consider if what the church is asking is in God's will or man's design in keeping worldly wise agendas. Help us Lord to discern the good work You have for us to do and for Your glory alone. Amen. (Refer to 1 Thessalonians 4:1)
From my heart to yours,
