Christian Character & Conduct - 2017 Weekly Devotional - Week 45
We are all familiar with the Golden Rule. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Did you know that this rule was around even before Christ? The rabbinic writings and even Hindu and Buddhist had similar statements. The unique and beneficial difference here is that Jesus teaches it as a positive command.
Rabbi Hillel's version states: "What's hateful to yourself do not to someone else." Jesus starts it this way in Matthew 7:12: Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (See Luke 6:31) Jesus knew this was ethical and it was taught in the Old Testament Scripture. We are to live our lives in such a way that honor and obedience will be our practice, honoring God in the process. Help us Lord to show honor and respect to others as we live for You each day. Amen.
From my heart to yours,
