Being Willing and Available

We can learn a valuable lesson from the story of the rich young ruler in Luke 18:18-30. The question he asked Jesus was: What must I do to inherit eternal life? (v.18)

This young man did recognize Jesus as a Good Teacher, but his “self efforts” of work, (keeping the commandments) gave him a “false hope.” Jesus recognized his human efforts of doing good works, and He admonished him with the
heart of the issue.

Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; and come follow me. (v.22) The One Thing he lacked was very clear; he was not willing to place Christ Jesus at the throne of his heart and life. The self -life of goods and status was his god. Jesus was calling him to true faith ... Christlikeness.

Help us Lord to live surrendered to You and not to worldliness! Amen.
