Devotionals 2020 The Root of Righteousness Week Three
Over the next few weeks we will confirm the Genesis text by seeing the results of Abraham's true root of righteousness. (Remember Abraham (a gentile) was called (Genesis 12) out of the gentile world to become the first patriarch of a future nation.) Reading from Romans 4: 1-5 we see: What then shall we say that Abraham our forefather according to the flesh, has found? For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? Abraham believed God it was credited to him as righteousness. Now the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due. But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness. The Apostle Paul is clear here. Abraham did no physical labor or earthly deed in receiving God’s righteousness – it came by believing faith in the One who is the Justifier – God Himself! This is the wonder and blessing we have in our Root of righteousness – belief and faith in the Divine Giver! Amen.
