Devotionals 2020 The Root of Righteousness Week 33
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the Author and finisher of our faith... For whom the Lord loves He disciplines and chastens every son who He receives... For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of Righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:1-2a. 6. 11
The Child of God is prone to sin. The flesh is our enemy. The life of a Christian will always include struggle and will be in need of discipline. God is teaching us to walk uprightly, and sometimes He has to take action as described above. This helps us stay on the narrow road of His Righteousness. He promises us that after the discipline we will see the peaceable fruit of Righteousness. God always does this for our good. (See Hebrews 12:10)
