Heaven Is My Forever Home Devotionals for 2021 Week 36
The Book of 2nd Peter continues a marvelous teaching on living a genuine Christian life. Peter was one of the 1st disciples Jesus called. He was a hard worker (fisherman), a good Jewish man, was married and had longing for the coming of the Messiah. His eager devotion is evident in his bold actions. He was commended for his faith and admonished along the way. Pentecost would position him as an Apostle, and he would preach the powerful sermon we read in Acts 2:14-35.
2nd Peter is written in the final days of his life. He is passionate about his calling and election. He lists the awesome power and praises given to the elect. (2 Peter 1:3-4) He then lists the virtues: faith; knowledge; self-control; steadfastness; godliness; brother affection; and love in verses 5-7. He concludes with this: Therefore brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities, you will never fail. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 1:10-11)
Heaven was awaiting Peter. It will await all who hold steadfast to His Word!
